Geraldo de Freitas Maciel

Full Professor at UNESP, FE Ilha Solteira.He has been working in the Department of Civil Engineering since 1994. He was Vice-Coordinator of the Civil Engineering Program for three terms. He is a professor in the Masters and Doctorate programs of PPGEM (Postgraduate Program in Mechanical Engineering) and ProfÁgua (ANA: National Water Agency): Professional Master's Program in a Network. He supervises Master's and Doctorate students. He was a Visiting Professor at the Institut National des Sciences Appliquées de Toulouse, France. He worked at Insa Toulouse (Génie Mathématique) as the person responsible for the Fluid Mechanics and Aerodynamics courses from 1999 to 2013. He was the Coordinator of the Brafitec Project (Unesp-Insa, Capes-CDEFI) from 2010-2013. He also coordinated several Network Research Agreements with Brazilian Higher Education Institutions (IES) through PROCAD (Unesp, UFRJ, UNIFEI, UFRGS, UFRN) and with IES from Portugal (IST, LNEC Laboratory) through Capes-Grices and Capes FCT. He coordinated the Fapesp-CNRS Research Project (France) from 2006 to 2008.He holds a degree in Civil Engineering from the Polytechnic School of UFRJ (1984), a Masters degree in Ocean Engineering from COPPE - UFRJ (1986), and a Doctorate in Mechanics from Université Joseph Fourier - Grenoble I (1991). He has experience in Civil Engineering, with an emphasis on Hydraulics, mainly working on the following topics: General Hydraulics, Water Resources, Dams, Free Surface Flow - Newtonian and Non-Newtonian Fluids - Theoretical-Numerical-Experimental Analysis, Rheology of Fluids and Cementitious and Polymer Materials, Climate Change, Risks, and Natural Disasters. He also works in the field of Ethnography of Disasters (the interface between Engineering and Social Sciences). He promotes new digital engineering devices and techniques (BIM) in the education of engineers, as well as international mobility for students and Crossborder and at-home internationalization.
