Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP). Campus de Araçatuba. Faculdade de Odontologia (FOA)  (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal)
Birthplace: Brazil

Assistant Professor (RDIDP) MS 3.2, full-time, teaching Biochemistry in the Department of Basic Sciences at the Faculty of Dentistry of Araçatuba FOA/UNESP (since 2013). Holds a Bachelor's degree in Dentistry from the São Paulo State University (FOA/UNESP, 2001), a Master's degree and Specialization in Pediatric Dentistry (FOA/UNESP, 2005), a Doctorate in Biochemistry from the Postgraduate Program in Functional and Molecular Biology (IB/UNICAMP, 2009), and a Postdoctoral degree (FOA/UNESP, 2013), with a FAPESP scholarship. Is a permanent faculty member of the Multicenter Postgraduate Program in Physiological Sciences (PPGMCF/FOA-UNESP/SBFis) and the Postgraduate Program in Sciences (FOA/UNESP), working in the area of #8203;#8203;Children's Oral Health. He is responsible for the Saliva Biochemistry Laboratory (LabiqS/FOA-UNESP), where he develops experimental and translational research on the function and pathophysiology of salivary glands, with an emphasis on redox mechanisms. His research integrates approaches from morphology, biochemistry, physiology, and oral toxicology, focusing on experimental models. He completed a research internship abroad at the Department of Immunology Cell Biology of the University Medical Center Groningen (Netherlands, 2007) and served as a Senior Visiting Professor (CAPES-Print) at the Center for Craniofacial Research of the UTHealth School of Dentistry in Houston (USA, 2023). He is a full member of the Brazilian Society of Physiology (SBFis) and the Brazilian Society for Dental Research (SBPqO), as well as a member of the Editorial Board of the journal BMC Oral Health and a researcher in the Brazilian Group of Researchers in Salivary Glands and Saliva. He coordinated a research project funded by CNPq and maintains scientific collaborations with more than five Brazilian institutions and two foreign institutions. He maintains a continuous and growing scientific output, with emphasis on experimental studies in animal models on oral toxicology, metabolic modulation, and salivary dysfunctions. He has an H-index of 14 (Web of Science), H-index of 16 (Scopus), and H-index of 19 / i10 36 (Google Scholar), with more than 80 published articles and more than 1070citations. Publications in high-impact journals, including investigations into the effects of anabolic androgenic steroids on salivary glands (J Steroid Biochem Mol Biol, IF 2.5), the salivary and glandular response associated with apical periodontitis (Clin Oral Investig, IF 3.1), the impacts of intermittent fasting on the function and redox state of salivary glands (J Nutr Biochem, IF 4.9), and the effects of the anticonvulsant levetiracetam on the oxidative homeostasis of salivary glands (Toxicology, IF 4.6), demonstrate the scientific and translational relevance of his research. He has supervised 37 undergraduate research projects and 8 master's dissertations, and currently supervises 6 undergraduate research projects, 1 master's students, and 3 doctoral students. He has a robust and continuous track record in human resource development, contributing to the consolidation of new generations of researchers at the interface between biochemistry, physiology, and oral health. He continuously works in the training of human resources at the interface between morphology, biochemistry, and physiology applied to oral health, contributing to the understanding of salivary dysfunctions associated with drugs, toxins, systemic conditions, and metabolic alterations, with potential clinical relevance. Throughout his career, he has received several honorable mentions at national congresses of FESBE, SBFIs, and SBPqO. Email: antonio.hernandes@unesp.br (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
