Birthplace: Brazil

Ph.D. in Chemical and Biological Engineering from the University of Minho (Portugal), M.Sc. in Biotechnology from the University of São Paulo (USP), and holds undergraduate degrees in Chemistry (Licentiate and Bachelors) and Pedagogy (with emphasis on School Administration). She has experience in Applied Microbiology, Bioremediation, Microbial Fuel Cells, fermentation processes in different reactor configurations, Molecular Biology with emphasis on fungal gene expression analysis, and both chemical and biological synthesis of metallic nanoparticles. She is currently an Assistant Professor at São Paulo State University (UNESP Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho), where she develops research projects focused on: (i) treatment of different types of waste using solid membrane microbial fuel cell reactors; (ii) chemical and biological synthesis of metallic nanoparticles applied to water treatment systems contaminated with pathogens; (iii) microplastic biodegradation; and (iv) prospection of marine microorganisms with biotechnological potential. She collaborates with the Nuclear and Energy Research Institute (IPEN, Brazil), the Federal University of Alfenas (UNIFAL, Brazil), the Federal University of Tocantins (UFT, Brazil), the Macau University of Science and Technology (China), the University of Saint Joseph (China), the University of Aveiro (Portugal), the University of Minho (Portugal), and the Institute of Agroecology and Food at the University of Vigo (Spain). She teaches in the Graduate Programs in Coastal Biodiversity (UNESP) and Chemical Engineering (UNIFAL). She is also a member of LEAF Linking Landscape, Environment, Agriculture and Food at the Instituto Superior de Agronomia, University of Lisbon.
