Roger Chammas, MD-PhD concluded his studies in Medicine (1988) and got his PhD degree in Biochemistry (1993) at Universidade de São Paulo, while working at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research (1989-1993). He specialized in Glycobiology at University of California, San Diego (1994-1997) and was a visiting researcher at Friedrich-Miescher Institute, Basel (1991), Harvard School of Public Health, Boston (1993), Universidade Federal de São Paulo (1998-1999) and Moffitt Cancer Research Center, Tampa (2011-2012). Chammas is presently Full Professor of Oncology at Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo, where he has been working since 2000. Chammas serves as chair of the Center for Translational Research in Oncology, a research unit for both basic and translational cancer research at Instituto do Câncer do Estado de São Paulo, a specialized institute for cancer management and oncology teaching and research associated with Universidade de São Paulo. Chammas serves as academic editor for Plos One and Anais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências. His major interests are in the area of Cancer Biology (Biochemistry and Cancer Cell Biology), focusing in tumor progression, carbohydrate-dependent tumor markers and tumor microenvironment, as targets for combination therapy and molecular diagnostics through imaging in cancers.
