Abstract

The International Joined Laboratory (IJL-SAGEMM) focuses on the conjunction of transformations in work, family and social policies and assistance, as well as its urban anchorages. Its analytical dimensions include gender issues, family structures, processes of conception and implementation of social policies, problematizing the dynamics of this connections with the challenges imposed by globalization. The objects of our research and analysis are the labor market, family/gender policies, as well as urban policies and their transformations since the 1990s. These social policies and programs are thought of at different scales, such as expedients, devices and forms of government. The perspectives and analytical challenges of these policies and programs seek to understand how the actors, operators, beneficiaries involved in them end up experiencing and formatting them. The articulation between objects and research programs that compose the laboratory is based on the observation of a paradoxical relationship between the worldwide trend of deregulation on the one hand and the modes of activation on the other; in the dynamics of formalization/informalization in Latin America, combined with the wave of European precariousness. The aim is to investigate how social and urban policies as well as labor market (de) regulation policies are adapted to specific national settings through a multi-scalar, multi-situated research process that seeks to illuminate social processes by their juxtaposition and, when possible, their comparison. The LMI SAGEMM is composed of three thematic axes:Axis1: Activities: the new frontiers of labor and employment relations This thematic axis has as its object the transformations of the world of labor in contemporary societies, including a wide range of forms and niches of work and diverse social activities. Its analytical perspective is based on the discussion of transversal elements to be apprehended in an intersectoral way. The old and new informalities have become hegemonic; the categories relating to the distinction between "formal and informal work" have been reconfigured. The different thematical research objects are the relations between working conditions, their forms of formalization/informalization, employment relations and forms of solidarity, mediated by social protection, strongly considering the dimensions related to gender, to the migratory phenomenon in its recent conformations and the dynamics and role of the State, within the framework of these transformations and permanencies. Axis 2: Social policies and markets. This thematic axis has as its object the transformations of the relations between State and "civil society", its mediations by the conformation of different spheres of market, commodities and moral economies, understood as moral grammars. The analytical dimensions, in an intersectorial approach, propose to investigate the ways in which social policies create different types of markets, and their forms of articulation. The research objective is to identify the different actors along the production chains of social services and programs at their local, regional, national and international levels; to inventory their fields of action, between politics, private initiative and big international organizations and to map their social and professional trajectories; to unveil its practices, to think about the mosaic of Latin American territorial conformations from its different conjunctures and temporalities, on a global scale. Axis3: Policy Reconfigurations. This thematic axis aims to study the relations between social demands and their forms of institutionalization, like solidarity economy, in a multi-scale perspective and in their interfaces. (AU)
