Abstract

The use of diffusers in the processing of different types of biomass (cane sugar, beet sugar, acacia bark, orange, etc.) is widely used in Brazil and abroad. However, the currently available technologies do not provide new extraction efficiencies and/or energy. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the local mass transfer rates in the leaching process, which demands a tomographic technology (non-intrusive) sensing the process to allow properly backdate the control variables. This proposal is inserted in this context and has the overall objective the development of a monitoring and control system for cane diffusers in order to optimize its performance, especially as the extraction efficiencies. In this way, the necessity of physical changes in the extraction system is eliminated, for example, the integration of the fiber saccharification processes for cellulosic ethanol production and/or "green" biochemical compounds as plastics, solvents, etc. Studies show that the incorporation of the technology proposed in this project may result in a disruptive advance not only in the sugar-energy sector but also in other sectors that do or can make use of the diffusion extraction technology.
