Abstract

Brazil harbors the largest biological diversity of anuran amphibians of the world. Every year, lots of new species are described and many of these new species are results of taxonomic and systematic studies undertaking in species complexes. Frogs from the family Hylidae present several species complexes. The genus Scinax is a good example, in which some species show a confusing taxonomic status and possibly represent a species complex. The Scinax hayii species complex was proposed in the literature composing by the morphologically similar species Scinax hayii, S. dolloi and S. perereca. These species are endemic to the Atlantic forest of southeastern Brazil, but since they taxonomic status is confusing, the knowledge about the geographic distribution of each in the Atlantic Forest biome is deficient. Due to great morphological and bioacoustics variations, and distinct geographical distribution recorded for these species, the present study intends to carry out a research of integrative taxonomy including morphologic and morphometric variation analyses, bioacoustics and molecular analyses (DNA barcoding) in an aim to improve the knowledge on this complex of species, contributing to future studies of conservation of the Brazilian amphibians diversity.
