Abstract

Instituto Biológico (IB) is a research center coordinated by the São Paulo Agribusiness Technology Agency (APTA), the Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply of the State of São Paulo (SAA) and its mission is to "Develop and transfer scientific and technological knowledge for the agricultural business in the areas of animal and plant health, its relations with the environment, aiming at improving the quality of life of the population.” In order to achieve its mission, based on the programmatic guidelines of the SAA, well as the Pluriannual Plan 2016 - 2019 (PPA), Program 1301: "Sustainable Technologies for Rural and Agroindustrial Development", it is proposed in this PDIP to overcome some difficulties and improve the IB research capacity in three strategic areas: (I) genomics applied to animal, plant and environmental health, (II) technological innovation animal health, and (III) biological control. Areas (I) and (III) are multi-users, while area (II) besides being multi-user, supports health issues in the demanding international market for the export of meat and live animals, as well as the national market. It is also proposed to improve the quality of institutional services, especially with regard to good research practices, in order to guarantee collective scientific integrity. With the consolidation of the proposed objectives, IB will increase its capillarity in the execution of joint partnerships with internationally recognized reference centers, generating new knowledge for the agribusiness, being a supplier of inputs in the animal and plant areas, as well as expanding the number of trained professionals in the several academic levels, both internal and externaI to the institution. Such actions will expand IB's ability to generate patents, receive royalties and enable licensing, as well as contribute to lower production costs and increase the productivity and supply of sustainable and healthy food.
