Chemical reactions under continuous flow conditions: chemical and economic aspects of the use of enabling technologies for obtaining low cost medicines

Abstract

The objective of this project is to cover the costs for the visiting of Prof. D. Tyler McQuade of VCU-Virginia USA and allow interactions and scientific collaborations under the theme "Continuous Flow Chemistry", encompassing the two main institutions that have been doing research in this field in the State of São Paulo: UNICAMP and UFSCar. Several joint project discussions, a short course in the area and seminars are planned in both institutions, further allowing a fruitful scientific interaction of the proponent researchers and their teams with Prof. McQuade. It is important to mention the relevance of Prof. McQuade in the flow chemistry scenario and the fact that he is currently coordinating several projects and a research Centre in the USA called "Medicine For All", in which the main goals are to enable the low-cost chemical synthesis of strategic drugs by using Flow-Chemistry technologies. It is also worth to mention the connection of these projects with the projects under development in the São Paulo institutions and the aggregating potential that the visit of Prof. McQuade may promote for everyone. Finally, it is also scheduled the valuable attendance of Prof McQuade as a lecturer in the 17th BMOS in the process. (AU)
