Abstract

This multidisciplinary proposal aims to contribute to a significant qualitative and quantitative advance in the synthesis, characterization, modeling and applications of ferroic materials, monolithic and nanostructured, to enhance its properties for applications in renewable and magnetoelectric energy converters. The generation and use of energy from renewable sources is a strategic area for the country from a scientific, technological and economic point of view. Single-phase or composite ferroic materials will be developed for use in mechanical (electromechanical) or solar (photovoltaic) energy converters into electrical energy. Through an experimental approach (synthesis, processing and characterization) and theoretical (phenomenological modeling by Density Functional Theory) we intend to investigate multiferroic and ferroelectric materials, aiming at the maximization of some of its physical properties for the application in energy converting devices. Relevant contributions are expected in three fundamental pillars in the development of new materials and devices: methods of processing single crystals, bulk and two-dimensional materials, modeling of fundamental properties (structural / microstructure-property correlation) and prospective development of prototypes of new sensors, actuators and power converters. The results of this research, due to their comprehensive and innovative nature, will certainly contribute to the development of new class of materials.** This Project is part of the INCT "Materiais Ferroicos Nanoestruturados para Conversores de Energia", Chamada INCT - MCTI/CNPq/CAPES/FAPs nº 16/2014).
