Abstract

Science, Technology, Society and Environment (STS&A) education seeks to explore the interactions between science and society and to promote critical and complex views of scientific literacy process. This perspective has been developed in actions and research in informal education and, especially in science museums. These places, which are historically used to present a unique and finished idea of science, have been increasingly called upon to promote the STS&A relationship and, in this sense, we are interested in understand, in this research, how such relations are being approached by museums from the analysis in three perspectives: i) study of exhibitions, educational materials produced by museums and/or actions carried out by educators with the public; ii) visitors studies, focusing on visitors alone or in small groups and teachers in training; iii) development of actions and materials, focused on teachers, that develop STS&A relations in museums. The research is qualitative and encompasses Brazilian and Canadian institutions. It takes as theoretical and methodological basis the pilot research developed in Canada, within the CAPES Senior Research Internship Scholarship held at the University of Toronto, focused on STS&A relations. For the analysis, we will combine inductive strategies such as conventional content analysis with deductive strategies, based on the direct content analysis, considering the discussion about STS&A. As one of the main results we propose the provision of parameters for the development of educational actions in the STS&A perspective, strengthening the educational process of the museums. (AU)
