Abstract

The objective is to construct a model to promote the Business Process Management in a Clinical Research Unit considering the ten principles of a good BPM. To attain this objective, it is necessary to: (1) review the state of art literature about BPM and clinical health/research units to develop a conceptual framework which is the basis for research. (2) Analyze and identify the processes and prioritize the processes that require greater attention. (3) Promote a management system for processes within a health organization through empirical research. (4) Proposal for a model. After the conclusion of research, there is the intention to propose a model to promote BPM which addresses the roles and responsibilities, management integration of the processes involved in management of projects, techniques and phases according to the assumed theoretical principles postulated in the specialized literature. The benefits from this will contribute with a fresh knowledge about the issue since, until now, there has not been any similar study with such a contribution of content and which has presented empirical evidence about the promotion of the management of processes in Clinical Research Units or health organizations that consider the ten BPM principles. It is further hoped that many new research opportunities will be identified and presented related to cost management and a start to finish view of the process, knowledge management and a systematic vision of all the portfolio of clinical research projects as well as incorporate external factors into the strategic analysis in order to create opportunity for innovation in management.
