Abstract

The intensification of livestock farming has created complex problems in the health of animal production, further challenging the activity of the veterinarian. Despite advances in chemotherapeutic and effective vaccines, diseases caused by microorganisms remain the major obstacle in intensive animal production. Losses from infectious diseases are estimated to be 15-20%. Infections caused by Mollicutes (mycoplasmas) cause a wide range of pathologies associated with genital and respiratory tracts, as well as mammary glands, causing great losses in bovine breeding and goat breeding. Despite progress in studies on therapeutic and prevention methods, strategies still remain inefficient. In this way, the generation of a new alternative that provides better protection against mycoplasma infections is necessary. With this, this project aims at the development of diagnostic tests and the selection of vaccine candidates for mycoplasmosis in cattle and goats. For this, this project will be carried out in three main strands: 1) Test standardization for immunodetection of M. bovis, M. agalactiae and Ureaplasma diversum; 2) Evaluation of the functionality of the immunochromatographic test in an epidemiological study; 3) To analyze the immunogenicity of recombinant proteins of M. bovis, M. agalactiae and U. diversum, for the selection of possible vaccine candidates. The rapid diagnosis of mycoplasmosis under field conditions will allow the rapid decision-making of breeders and producers regarding the actions of discarding or keeping animals in the herds, directly influencing the levels of productivity, reproductive efficiency and competitiveness of the livestock enterprise (AU)
