Abstract
Pyometra, also called cystic endometrial hyperplasia complex, is an inflammatory process of the endometrium with important fluid accumulation in the uterus that favors microorganisms' colonization, especially Escherichia coli. The development of acute renal injury is one of the most important complications of pyometra. In this context, renal biopsy, ultrasound and enzymuria may be important predictors of early injury. The objective of the present study is to evaluate the ability to detect renal injuries in bitches with pyometra and sepsis, by ultrasonography and enzymuria confronted with renal histopathological findings (gold standard). Twenty females with pyometra attended at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (UNIFRAN) will be used. Will be evaluated complete blood count, biochemical profile and urinalysis, culture (urine and uterus) imaging and also kidney histopathology that will be biopsied during ovariohysterectomy. Control group will be performed with non-septic pyometra. The project will have the participation of a multidisciplinary team, with members of several national and international institutions. (AU)
