Definition of a Strategy to Support the Usability Evaluation of Systems with Focus on Biodiversity, Climate Change and Seasonal Disease Monitoring

Abstract

Biodiversity, climatic conditions and seasonal diseases monitoring is one of the most important tools for the management of protected areas and definition of actions for public health policies. To generate data that could be effective and produce reliable results, it is necessary that each step of the process - collection, structuring, digitization, storage and access - must be carried out using specific tools that minimize losses or distortions. Since there is always a question of how well designed these systems interfaces are, methods that favor good evaluation should be employed. This project proposes the design, and implementation of the ErgoCoIn, a computerized tool to support the usability assessments of web sites employing checklists that aims to present quantitative results on the usability characteristics of the web site with a focus on monitoring of biodiversity, climate change and seasonal diseases. This environment provides automated resources to make this collection of information and be able to assemble objective checklists, proposing only the questions that apply to the actual operating context of the site and the interface components on the pages under evaluation.
