Abstract

The present invention relates to a method and system for removing reflections generated in common optical elements and coaxial to the imaging and illumination of the retina. It is proposed an optical system that allows to capture images of the retina in high resolution and high field of view and that has optical elements common to the imaging and illumination. The system has light sources located in different positions of the set, each of which individually promotes homogeneous illumination of the retina. Furthermore, the set has the property that the reflections generated by each light source in the elements common to the imaging and illumination do not overlap in the image sensor that records the images of the retina. A method of synchronizing imaging and illumination is then proposed such that each frame of the capture sequence is illuminated by only one light source and adjacent frames of the capture sequence are illuminated by different sources of light. The frames are then treated and combined in such a way that the final retinal image is free of L reflexes. The proposed method is applicable in all cases where it is necessary to use optical elements common to the imaging and illumination of the scene being recorded, such as radiography, angiography and endoscopy.
