Abstract

This proposal intends to develop research collaborations in early modern Politics, Religion, Radicalism, and Prophecy between Unifesp, Unicamp, USP, and Goldsmiths, University of London by bringing Dr. Ariel Hessayon to São Paulo for a six-week period of research, seminars, workshops, courses, and lectures between August and mid-September 2020. Since 2014 Dr. Hessayon has received graduate students from Unifesp and USP as their supervisor in the United Kingdom, and has also discussed projects with members of research groups from public universities in the state of São Paulo. The present grant will constitute a significant opportunity to further broaden these on-going collaborations as well as to initiate and establish important new projects. The proposal involves activities organized by four research groups, all of whom are dedicated to the study of Early Modern History and Religious and Political Cultures. These groups are: CNPQ Research Group "Poder e Política na Época Moderna", coordinated by Dr. Luís Filipe Silvério Lima and the main proponent of this Research Mobility grant, at Unifesp; "Modernitas", coordinated by Dr. Rui Luis Rodrigues, at Unicamp; and "Finisterra_Lab", coordinated by Dr. Ana Paula Torres Megiani, and "LECH", coordinated by Dr. Iris Kantor, both at USP. The activities will also be part of the schedule of the History Masters and Ph.D. Programs of Unifesp, Unicamp, and USP.The six weeks will consist of three types of activities: Research: research collaboration with the groups involved in the proposal, and the development of a Unifesp-Goldsmiths joint research project entitled "Mission, Settlements, and Providence in Early Modern Atlantic"; Teaching: the graduate course "Heresy, the Occult and the Apocalypse in early modern Western Europe"; Dissemination: talks and lectures at Unifesp, USP, Unicamp, and UFRJ.
