Abstract
The present research project is devoted to one of the most topical problems of modern condensed matter physics, a crossover from quasiballistic to hydrodynamic transport regimes in narrow channels of high-mobility two-dimensional electrons. The planned research is of conceptual significance for fundamental physics because when the standard Drude paradigm of classical electron transport in solids becomes invalid, implementation of new approaches to evaluation of transport coefficients is necessary, and experimental verification of such approaches is especially important. The practical significance of the research is determined by possible application of its results in the emerging field of viscous electronics. The project implies a close cooperation of a theorist with an experimental group for explanation of new experimental results, direct quantitative comparison of theory with experiment, and recommendations for planning further studies. Dr. Oleg Raichev, a Leading Research Scientist of the Department of Theoretical Physics in the Institute of Semiconductor Physics, Kyiv, Ukraine, is a theorist whose contribution in the field of electron transport in low-dimensional electron systems and nanostructures is recognized worldwide. He has a long and positive history of scientific collaboration with the group of Dr. Gennady Gusev from the New Semiconductor Materials Laboratory of the Institute of Physics of the University of Sao Paulo (LNMS-IFUSP). This collaboration started in 2007 and proved to be both useful and fruitful. Its results have been published in 27 papers in the physics journals with high impact factor, mostly Physical Review B and Physical Review Letters, and reported at numerous international conferences and workshops. The objective of the project is to study theoretically electron transport in in narrow 2D channels in the presence of electron-electron interaction that leads to viscosity of 2D electron gas. (AU)
