Abstract

Infertility is understood as the inability to conceive a child within the one-year period of constant attempts to conceive in sexually active persons without the use of contraception. According to WHO data, the estimated number of reproductive-age couples experiencing difficulties in achieving pregnant is approximately 15%. In Brazil, about 15 to 20% of couples of reproductive age present infertility, which represents more than eight million couples. Among the causes of infertility, about 20% are genetic and include chromosomal abnormalities and single gene mutations. The preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) is an early form of prenatal diagnosis aiming to prevent genetic diseases through the selection of embryos. Due to the complexity of genetic counseling, it is necessary for a multi-professional team and psychological monitoring. Several emotional reactions, such as guilt by the bearer of genetic diseases and even spouses, feelings of inferiority, frustration, and impossibility of modifying the picture of infertility, since it is not currently possible to correct genetic errors. The psychological well-being of couples performing PGT is not very well documented. The present study aims to propose a model of health promotion by verifying and relating the marital relationship, social relationship, resilience, the stress of infertility, depression, and spirituality in infertile couples who were submitted to PGT, comparing them with other couples in Assisted Reproduction Treatment, by specific and validated questionnaires and scales.
