Reforms and Adaptations of Rodent Maintenance and Experimentation Bioterium - Step 1

Abstract

The construction of the current Bioterium of the Araçatuba School of Dentistry, São Paulo State University (UNESP) dates from 1976. Therefore, does not meet the demands of researchers as well as current legislation. Reforms and improvements in the sector are necessary. For this reason, the Congregation of the Araçatuba School of Dentistry decided to direct the Application of the Fapesp Institutional Technical Reserve to the Reform and Adjustment of the Bioterium. To this goal, since 2013 the resources have been used to reach this demand. Thus, the 2013 RTI FAPESP entitled "Phase 1 Reforms and Adaptations of the Bioterium" gave rise to the Rabbit Maintenance and Experimentation Bioterium. The RTI Fapesp 2014, "Bioterium Reforms and Adaptations - Phase 2" enabled the hiring of an engineering project to carry out the necessary renovations and adjustments to the Rat Maintenance and Experimentation Bioterium. Due to their complexity, the adjustments were designed to be performed in stages, according to priorities defined by the researchers. Thus, meeting the demand of researchers, the resource of the 2019 Fapesp Institutional Technical Reserve, added to the balances of previous years, will be allocated to the "Reforms and Adaptations of Rodent Maintenance and Experimentation Bioterium - Step 1". Therefore, Araçatuba School of Dentistry, São Paulo State University (UNESP) will be able to expand its research and fundraising capacity, strengthening research groups and postgraduate programs and, consequently, raising the level of research to the international standard of publication.
