Regression models and applications

Abstract

The theme of this project is the study of the association between sets of variables. With this goal, we use statistical methodology based on regression models, understood, here, in a broad sense. Under this perspective, we deal with topics that, in the statistical literature are known as Analysis of Categorical Data, Survival Analysis, Regression Analysis, etc. In particular, we intend to evaluate different formulations for such models, to adjust them to data sets via several estimation methods, to examine alternative forms to test hypotheses about their compatibility with the data, to assess the statistical properties of estimators and tests, to implement the methods computationally and to apply the results to practical problems originating from several research fields. As a result, the project will generate new techniques for statistical data analysis that shall be published in international periodicals or text books and presented in national and international scientific symposia. Practical applications will benefit investigators who bring their projects the Applied Statistics Centre of the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of São Paulo. The conclusion of a considerable number of M.Sc. theses and PhD. dissertations is another of the project objectives. (AU)
