Abstract

Global financial governance is, paradoxically, one of the fields in which democratization is more urgent and more difficult to be implemented. After the "2008 Crisis", some adjustments have taken place, but a great opportunity to make fundamental reforms has been missed. Considering this context, the general goal of this book is to map political-institutional alternatives to reform the global financial governance, which have the purpose of its democratization. Specifically, we intend to do: (1) a diagnosis of the different dimensions of the global financial governance's democratic deficit; (2) the systematization and the classification of alternatives presented by different theoretical approach of global democracy, as well as those produced by international organizations, other instances of global governance, social movements and civil society organizations; (3) a critical analysis of the mapped alternatives. Situated in the field of State Theory, this research adopted an interdisciplinary approach and used the methodology of critical institutional mapping. It consists in the critical observation of institutions and institutional projects, comparing ideal objectives with institutional reality, and seeking, in their qualities, failures and limits, materials that could be reworked, which also gives a normative feature to this research.
