Abstract

The request for a laser-ablation 213 nm sampling system to be coupled to an ICPMS spectrometer installed at the Geosciences Institute has the main objective of supporting the research planned under the Thematic Project "The Paraná Magmatic Province: petrogenesis, chronology and environmental impact of tholeiitic, alkaline and silicic Cretaceous magmatism in the Brazilian Platform "(Fapesp Process 2019/22084-8). In this project, the quantitative determination of trace elements in minerals and rocks is a fundamental tool for the characterization of the studied materials and modeling of magmatic evolution processes. The equipment will be coupled to a iCAP Q - Thermo Scientific spectrometer, replacing the current laser-ablation system (NewWave 213 nm), which, after more than a decade in which it provided analyzes of excellent quality that benefited a wide range of researchers from the Institute of Geosciences and other Brazilian research institutions, no longer offers conditions of use. As a multi-user equipment, the analyses of trace elements at the level of parts per million or better in solid materials, especially minerals and rocks, will be offered as a service to the entire academic community, both internal and external to the University within the scope of the Geoanalica Multi-User Center , installed at the Institute of Geosciences USP, whose Rules of Procedure adopt the standard indicated by the USPMulti Program of the USP Research Pro-Rectory.
