Effect of extrinsic characterization, polishing and glazing on the optical and mechanical properties of Y-FSZ


Recently, the third generation of zirconia, represented by fully stabilized zirconia (Y-FSZ), was introduced into the dental market being indicated to manufacturing anterior and posterior monolithic crowns, and has drawn the interest of the scientific community because presents high translucency associated with adequate mechanical properties. However, before cementation of the prosthetic restoration, it is necessary to selection a suitable surface finishing procedure that improves aesthetics and reduces surface roughness, while not impairing the color stability and mechanical properties of the material. Therefore, the objective of the study is to evaluate the effect of extrinsic characterization, polishing and glazing in the optical and mechanical characteristics of Y-FSZ. For this, the study will be divided into four phases. In phase 1, the bars are subjected to the application of extrinsic characterization, polishing and glazing and then are evaluated for topography and surface roughness, crystalline structure, microhardness, fracture toughness, stable elasticity module and flexural strength. In phase 2, the squares will be subjected to the same controls to assess their influence on color and translucency after accelerated artificial aging. In phase 3, the conical bodies with a hemispherical surface and the antagonistic discs will be made to evaluate the treatment effect and use Y-FSZ before dental enamel, porcelain feldspar, dissolved ceramic on the spot and nanohybrid resin. Finally, in phase 4, monolithic canine-shaped crowns will be made, cemented over aesthetic abutments, screwed over the dialogue of the Morse connection implant, to evaluate the execution of the tests proposed in the thematic monolithic crown on fatigue resistance of the crown set-cornerstone.
