Abstract

A high inclusion of fibers, mainly soluble fibers, in prepartum diets of sows is related to improvement in the farrowing kinetics and decrease of the frequency of diarrhea in suckling piglets. In this context, the present study aims to develop a rich-fiber additive to be included in the sows' diet during the transition period, in order to improve the farrowing kinetics, decrease the number of stillborn piglets, improve the microbiota of treated sows and its respective litter and decrease inflammatory processes in the gut of suckling and weaned piglets. To achieve the proposed objectives, three experiments will be carried out. The first experiment will consist of the bromatological analysis and characterization of the non-starch polysaccharides constituents of different fiber sources, as well as the evaluation of the fermentation kinetics and short chain fatty acids produced by the fermentation of these fibers in vitro from the cecal microbiota. The second experiment will consist of the formulation of some fibrous additives composed of different proportions of fiber sources based on the results of experiment 1, in order to evaluate the effects of these additives on the maintenance of postprandial glycemic levels, cecal production of short chain fatty acids and the cecal microbiota composition of the treated females. The third experiment will have significant impacts on the technological evolution of agribusiness as it consists of supplying the fibrous additive that presents the best results in experiment 2 in the sows' diet during the transition period with the objective of improving farrowing kinetics, reducing the number of stillborn, decrease inflammatory processes in the gut of suckling and weaned piglets and, consequently, improving performance of the litter d by maternal microbiota influence.
