Abstract

This Project, entitled "State of the Art of Research in Environmental Education in Brazil" (EArte) has been developed since 2008 with the participation of researchers from different research institutions of the State of São Paulo (IB-Unesp-RC; FE-Unicamp; FFCL- RP-USP). Recently four other public institutions became part of the project team: UFTM, IFSP-Itapetininga, UFF and UFPR. Over the years, the Project has created a database of Theses and Dissertations on Environmental Education (EE) (www.earte.net), ranging from the first post-graduate studies in the field of Environmental Education (1981) to those completed in 2016, currently counting on a total of 4466 documents. In this new phase of the project, the research team aims to continue the process of identification, selection and classification of theses and dissertations in EE completed between 2017 and 2020, and to conduct both descriptive and panoramic as well as analytical and interpretative research in this field of knowledge (both considered "stare of the art" research). Thus, a first general objective of this project is to identify and select, from existing databases of theses and dissertations in the country, home pages of graduate programs and other sources of information, research completed by postgraduate students between 2017 and 2020, which focus on the relationship between the educational process and the environmental theme. This set of selected works will be incorporated into the databases of the project and will be analyzed by the project team and characterized, considering various descriptors, such as the year of production, institution and post-graduation program in which the research was carried out, the educational contexts and the research theme privileged by the authors. Other data such as authorship, supervisor, as well as title, abstract and key words will be informed for these researchs. The EArte's databases will gather information on EA Research in Brazil, produced at postgraduate level from 1981 to 2020, portraying 40 years of production in this field. This database also offers the possibility of identifying specific sets of research, with the possibility of searching and crossing the different data stored in the system. This resource has offering to the researchers' team the possibility to carry out descriptive and panoramic "state of the art" studies covering the entire production. Complementary studies will configure a panoramic and global view of the 40 years of EE Research in Brazil.A second general objective of the project is to pursue more analytical-interpretative "state of the art" studies. From the focus of interest of researchers and students this second objective seeks to explore varied perspectives of research, either from the point of view of the theoretical-methodological assumptions that have been guiding the research field, or from the point of view of the thematic and political pedagogical trends emphasized in the research works on EE in the country. In summary, this project aims to describe and analyze the field of Environmental Education Research in Brazil, through theses and dissertations produced in the period 1981-2020, focusing on the relationship between the educational process and the environmental theme. It seeks to problematize this field of knowledge, analising the implications of the research carried out for the construction of the field and for social practices related to the subject in question, particularly educational practices and public policy proposals. Thus, this project presents itself as a possibility to explore meaning-making processes about research in the field of EE and related pedagogical practices. (AU)
