Abstract

Objectives: This project is divided into two studies. Study 1: aims to translate the Infant Motor Profile (IMP) from the British English to Brazilian Portuguese; Study 2: aims to obtain normative data from the motor repertoire of typical Brazilian infants aged 3 to 18 months old or even acquire an independent mature walking (3 months after the acquisition) by IMP-Brazil. Methodology: Study 1 will consist of five steps such as (1) secure permission, (2) translation, (3) translation analysis, (4) back-translation, and (5) review by a committee of experts. It will be registered in the Brazilian Registry of Clinical Trials to maintain transparency during the execution process. Study 2 will be cross-sectional, with convenience sampling, which will follow the methodological guidelines of the Strengthening of Observational Studies in Epidemiology Reports. Through the Infant Motor Profile - Brazil, a 1600 infants from 3 to 18 months of age will be assessed or until they acquire an independent mature walking (3 months after the acquisition), with representative characteristics from the Brazilian population according to sex, parental education, ethnicity, and socioeconomic class, according to the last census published by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics. Expected results: That the Portuguese version of the Infant Motor Profile and the construction of reference values for Brazilian infants will offer health professionals a reliable and easy-to-apply tool. It will happen in order to improve the early detection of delays or changes in development in the first months of life. As a result, enabling the referrals timely to the most appropriate treatments for each case, when necessary. (AU)
