Access to USP's high-speed internet: Instituto Central, Hospital das Clínicas - School of Medicine of the University of São Paulo.

Abstract

The Hospital das Clínicas of the School of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (HCFMUSP) has medical care, teaching and research as pillars of its activities. The HCFMUSP system has 13 units, including specialized institutes, auxiliary hospitals and research and innovation centers. The Central Institute, the largest institute in HCFMUSP, has over 34 medical specialties with significant research output, which demands processing data generated in the different clinical protocols and electronic medical record systems, RIS / PACS and others. In recent years, investment in information technology has been a strategic focus, as it contributes and expands the potential use of data and information that subsidize these initiatives, in an increasingly integrated manner. Thus, access to technology and computerized systems play a fundamental role in this process. The network infrastructure is a set of devices and software that is part of the Information Technology (IT) network and the core asset of all the technology that is being implemented. Keeping the infrastructure up-to-date and with high performance offers improved data management for research, delivering speed and agility to data flow in the corporate environment, to enable quick access to information. For this, the occurrence of failures and slowing must be taken to a minimum level, keeping the networks permanently flexible, allowing to adjust bandwidth quickly, as well as the capacity to integrate to new locations. This proposal aims to update the current IT infrastructure, which is limited due to obsolete equipment. This project will lead to benefits in the hospital operation and, mainly, will allow us to expand and adopt new technologies for research. In order to meet these technologies, updating the infrastructure equipments (Switches and WiFi Access Points) is essential and will improve current applications, with increased speed and connection quality. In addition, the new technology will lead to greater information security and will allow new system deployments, leveraging research and innovation. This project is integrated with the School of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (FMUSP) strategic plan to make the computer network increasingly robust and allow high-speed internet access. Thus, the resource requested in this project will be supplemented by the Institutional Plan for Support to the Innovation Research Infrastructure of HCFMUSP - 2020 - 2021 (SP2 - Complementation of USP High Speed Network Access Project: PAMB and ICHC), presented by the University of São Paulo School of Medicine (process 2020 / 14539-2).
