Abstract
This proposal aims at two parallel sets of activities in research and higher education that will be carried out by team of experimentalists and theorists from Sweden and Brazil. The main research topic is tightly bound to quantum technologies and addresses the use of quantum dots for quantum communication and simulation. In particular, we will employ light-mediated interaction between quantum dots to manipulate and engineer the emission of the photons. The coupling between quantum emitters has the potential to generate entanglement, which in turn allows one to tune the optical coherence of the radiated light. Considering that quantum dots are among the most promising sources of single photons and entangled photon pairs, the project holds great promise to path the way to understanding of a system that can be used for both fundamental research and technological applications. This project gathers the theorists from São Carlos that have a strong expertise in atomic systems and light-mediated interactions, and the experimentalists from Stockholm who work with quantum dots coupled to optical cavities. By bringing together the analytical and numerical tools and knowledge from atomic systems to the experimental setup of quantum dots, the collaboration promises a rich cross-fertilization of fields and an intense exchange of ideas. The funding is requested for several research visits between the applicants. (AU)
