Abstract
The present research starts from the premise that the management of archeological heritage must be thought in the scenario marked by extreme events, wich stress social and environmental issues. We take as a case study the archaeological heritage of the coastal strip and centered on the urban landscape of the north coast of São Paulo, en especial, Ubatuba city. We understand the case study as a laboratory for understanding the status of archaeological heritage in areas of socio-environmental vulnerability and, therefore, as a basis for understanding strategies that can be elaborated for the integral management of this heritage. In the case of the archaeological heritage of the north coast of São Paulo, it is clear the exposure to social factors, such as the speculation in properties, the increased tourist activity, unplanned occupations on steep slopes, questions about the functionality, limits and legitimacy of the Parque Estadual da Serra do Mar, among others, and to environmental factors, such as climate changes and their consequent sea level rises, changes in rainfall regimes, changes in local soil, flooding of certain areas and so on. Face of the increasing vulnerability to which these heritage sites are exposed, the research has three central objectives: the creation of qualitative and quantitative indicators of vulnerability as parameters for the decision-making in the management of archaeological heritage; 2. The production of a social cartography of the archaeological heritage of the north coast of São Paulo and the creation of a digital and public platform with updated data about the archeological sites of the region; and, 3. The creation of strategies for the formulation of public policies based on vulnerable archaeological heritage. (AU)
