Adequacy of the laboratories from the Center for Mathematics, Computation, and Cognition of UFABC: Project of utilization of the technical reserve for institutional research infrastructure in 2021

Abstract

The Federal University of ABC (UFABC) is one of the new Brazilian federal universities, created by Law 11.145, on July 26, 2005. Despite being relatively new, the University has infrastructure to support research activities, characterized by its support office. institutional, research integrity office and, in addition, has strategies for open access to publications. Even so, the support of development agencies is essential for the continuity and improvement of the research at a level of excellence and to overcome some of the deficiencies found. Therefore, aiming to meet the current needs of the Center for Mathematics, Computing and Cognition, we present a project to use the Portion for Institutional Infrastructure Costs for Research at the Center for Mathematics, Computing and Cognition (CMCC). This proposal focuses on: (1) maintenance and improvements in one of the institution's animal facilities, essential for its correct functioning and guarantee of the quality of the animals used in research projects; (2) in the adaptation of two image analysis rooms, which include two high-cost microscopes, unique at UFABC, as well as a photodocumentator; (3) adaptation of a workstation and repair of two fundamental equipment for the running of two computer labs; (4) purchase credits for conducting online surveys during social isolation. This infrastructure will be essential for the development of research activities with an inter and multidisciplinary character, with three main axes: i) research in neuroscience with an emphasis on neurobiology and psychobiology using experimental animals; ii) computational and mathematical modeling of biological systems, iii) research on cognitive processes. The adjustments presented will be essential to maintain excellence in research. (AU)
