Effectiveness of intervention program, via video call, for the management of anxiety in nursing professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic

Abstract

The pandemic caused by COVID-19 has been increasing anxiety levels in health professionals who are on the front line. Among health professionals, nursing stands out, considered the backbone of the health system. Nursing is one of the health professionals that presents high levels of anxiety, and the illness of the nursing staff has an impact on effective care to COVID-19. The aim of this study is to verify the feasibility and preliminary effectiveness of the program composed by Interpersonal Relationship, Mindfulness, and Acupressure (RIMA), via video call, for the management of anxiety in nursing staff. Method: Multicenter single-arm mixed method study to evaluate the feasibility and preliminary effectiveness of RIMA. It will be developed in three phases: phase 1 - construction of the RIMA program; phase 2 - verification of the feasibility of the RIMA; and phase 3 - analysis of the preliminary effectiveness of the RIMA. The RIMA program will consist of interventions that will be delivered during 3 days, and the follow-up will be carried out 7 days after the last intervention. In addition, open qualitative interviews for RIMA evaluation will be conducted with participants in the last day, and the preliminary effectiveness of the RIMA on anxiety symptoms reduction will be evaluated through the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and the Facial Action Coding System (FACS). Expected outcomes: It is expected that the RIMA program will be feasible, obtaining good results in relation to demand, acceptability, implementation, practicality, adaptation and safety; and effective in reducing anxiety symptoms, contributing to the promotion of mental health in nursing professionals.
