Abstract

The newest wine-producing macro-region in Brazil is based on the adoption of the double vine pruning system, which allows grape harvests to be carried out between June and August in the states of Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Goiás, Bahia, Rio de Janeiro, Espírito Santo, Mato Grosso and Tocantins, and the production of winter wines, in a subtropical and high altitude tropical climate, with vineyards located between altitudes of 600 to 1,200 m. Thus, this project will address the development of applied research in commercial agricultural areas (on farm research), through technical cooperation contracts already established by Embrapa Instrumentation with two wineries located in the state of São Paulo, and with the Technological Center EPAMIG Grape and Wine, in Caldas, MG, Brazil, on the use of procedures and equipment inherent to precision agriculture in a grape production system for winemaking (precision vitiviniculture), under irrigated conditions in Southeastern Brazil (winter wine). There will be the capacity building through the participation of graduate students through the development of master's dissertations and doctoral thesis. Technological innovation will occur through the improvement of agricultural practices in the context of precision vitiviniculture where it is not yet practiced or is incipient. The spatial and temporal variability of soil and vines will be used to make decisions regarding the implementation of agricultural practices in a differentiated way, such as the grape harvesting zones based on vine's vegetative vigor for obtaining wines with different and desirable characteristics.
