Abstract

Phononic materials and elastic/acoustic metamaterials can exhibit specific behavior usually not observed in natural materials. They have great potential to replace traditional materials in demanding engineering applications and also to pave the way for innovative solutions of several engineering problems. The laser Dopler vibrometry is an alternative to traditional contact techniques usually employed in structural dynamics tests as well as in applications including acoustics, fault detection, fluid-structure interaction, to name a few. In this project, the motivation is to explore the superior performance of short-wavelength infrared laser vibrometry in periodic structures tests in the context of phononic materials and elastic/acoustic metamaterials. Therefore, the goal is the acquisition of a single point laser vibrometer with a compact measuring head that also enables measurements on black, glowing or extremely rough surfaces. (AU)
