Abstract

Nowadays, Neuroscience is a multidisciplinary area, which mobilizes thousands of scientists from different profiles all over the world, from medical doctors to computer engineers, acting through mathematics. Due to an astronomical number of functional units (neurons) and an even greater number of connections between them (synapses) the brain is perhaps the most complex system that Science has ever tried to explain and simulate, the mathematical tools of Neuroscience have become increasingly complex, giving rise to new and expanding branches, such as Mathematical Neuroscience or Computational Neuroscience. During this visit, a joint research work will be carried out by Prof. Nikolai Chemetov (host) with Prof. Pedro Lima, from the University of Lisbon, on a mathematical model of neuronal interaction, with applications, for example, obtained, in the interpretation of medical exams through EEG or magnetic resonance. In addition, Prof. Pedro Lima will give some lectures on mathematical models in Neurosciences at the PPGM seminar of the Department of Computing and Mathematics - FFCLRP, University of São Paulo. (AU)
