Abstract

Factors such as urban mobility prediction, monitoring of traffic dynamics in cities, limited resources involved, efficient extraction of heterogeneous information derived from urban spaces, and efficient communication infrastructure resources become crucial and play an essential role in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). These factors are part of the challenges imposed for the evolution of urban spaces-aware services that ITS can provide. In this context, the Federated Learning (FL) paradigm has emerged as a new trend and strong computational capacity to solve such challenges. For this reason, the proposed project is based on the hypothesis that it is possible, through the data provided by the urban environment and the deep models of FL, to provide, characterize, and model urban spaces-aware services that an ITS can provide to its users. Therefore, this research project aims to investigate how factors extracted from the urban environment via FL influence the traffic management of large cities to propose new urban spaces-aware services to contribute to the ITS area.
