Arrabidaea chica Verlot: development of herbal medicine with healing activity

Abstract

Our group has worked in the study of product development in herbal medicines. Clinical studies phase I and II with formulations generated from the standardized Extracts of Arrabidaea chica Verlot were possible with previous data produced from extract standardization and pre-clinical studies. The present work proposal focuses on carrying on research with relationship to pharmacological activities and development of herbal medicines from standardized natural products, with a team that congregates specialists in the various areas of competence. This proposal will continue the studies developed by the group on the pharmacological effects of the association of extracts and fractions from the fruits of Bixa orellana and Arrabidaea chica Verlot for wound healing properties and the use of these associations in bioactive dressings for skin and mucosa lesions, incorporating the associations of extracts in different polymeric matrices. The results of the proposal will contribute to the therapeutic advancement of healing processes, inflammatory, and neoplastic diseases with a focus on application by the Brazilian Public health system; improving patient's survival and quality of life; training human resources with scientific curiosity and leadership skills; attract students with high scientific capacity; and training technicians to support research through technical assistance.
