Application of electronic nose in biofuel quality with addition of natural antioxidant

Abstract

The main objective of this work is developing a methodology to evaluate the quality of biodiesel produced from oil and residual fat (OGR) from food frying, as well as to determine its stability during storage with the application of a natural antioxidant. The main conditioning variables that affect the production and storage of this biofuel will be studied, such as: raw material, technological routes, purification processes and oxidative stability, which will be correlated with the quality of the final product through the olfactory profile and according to the norms of the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP). The natural antioxidant to be used will come from agro-industry residue, such as grape marc. The electronic nose will be used as an alternative measurement instrument for the determination of important characteristics in the process, in addition to the multivariate analysis techniques for the interpretation of the results to be obtained. This research will allow the development of a new analysis methodology for the early identification of raw materials, which will guarantee the final quality and storage of a biofuel of great importance for the country, with considerable reduction of time and without the need to use a sophisticated and expensive equipment.
