Financial education marathon in basic education

Abstract

Contemporary society has as an important mark the expansion of access to credit to encourage the consumption of goods and services and the imbalance in personal and/or family budgets. Such characteristics require greater criticality in relation to consumption and openness to the development of skills in financial education, understood as a process that goes beyond understanding mathematical accounts, as it is associated with a combination of ideas that give a broad understanding of money, consumption, application, new credit modalities, mastery of technology to carry out basic financial transactions, among others. From this perspective, and starting from the perception that the teaching of financial education is a contemporary transversal theme, as it affects human life on a local, regional and global scale, this project intends, in a first stage, to contribute to the development of skills such as knowledge (concepts and procedures) and skills (practical, cognitive and socio-emotional) that will help 1st grade high school students at a public school in the interior of São Paulo to solve complex demands of everyday life related to this theme. In a second step, it is intended to contribute to the continuing education of teachers focusing on reflection and understanding of concepts present in financial education, which provides the enrichment of their pedagogical practices. For the proposed objectives, workshops and activities will be carried out consisting of investigative scenarios and challenge problems, which will be developed using the Gamification methodology. It is expected, in this way, in addition to contributing to the school community regarding the possibilities and challenges of discussing financial education in the classroom, to contribute to the inclusion of Gamification as an active methodology in the financial literacy process in Basic Education.
