Abstract

Cancer epidemiology is a growing area in Veterinary Medicine. The Laboratory of Experimental and Comparative Oncology of the Department of Pathology at FMVZ-USP has also been dedicated to carrying out studies on the epidemiology of animal cancer. This is also one of the lines of research included in the CEPID proposal in Comparative and Translational Oncology, recently submitted and under analysis by FAPESP. , on the subject of cancer epidemiology in dogs. She is currently an Affiliate Professor at ICBAS, teaching classes in cancer epidemiology to students of Veterinary Medicine, Medicine and others. Dr Katia Pinello has excelled in the field of animal cancer epidemiology. She is the researcher responsible for creating the Vet-Onco-Net system to collect data on neoplasms in dogs. Dr Katia PINello is also responsible for initiating the Global Initiative for Veterinary Cancer Surveillance, GIVCS (https://www.givcs.org/ ), a pioneering initiative in veterinary medicine and within the One Health context. In 2019, a first event on the GIVCS was organized at FMVZ-USP, with the presence of Dr Pinello and other participants. We invite Dr Katia Pinello to come to Brazil in October 2022 to: talk and establish partnerships about projects in cancer epidemiology, underway at the Laboratory of Experimental and Comparative Oncology at FMVZ-USP, and which are part of the CEPID under analysis at FAPESP ; hold a lecture on the Vet-Onco-Net system at FMVZ and with the participation of other faculties of Veterinary Medicine in the State of São Paulo, aiming at its implementation at HOVET - FMVZ_USP and possibly in other veterinary hospitals in the city of SP and the state of SP : give lectures on the Vet-ICDO-canine 1 coding system, for its implementation in the Animal Cancer Registry of the City of São Paulo.
