Functionalized cubosome as bioactive delivery system for oral application

Abstract

Cubosomes are the new generation of liposomes as drug delivery systems especially in applications that require controlled release of encapsulated bioactives such as in the treatment of various types of cancer. The innovative aspect of cubosomes is related to the internal structure of these nanoparticles, a crystalline network where the bilayers formed by lipids are organized in defined topologies forming aqueous labyrinths within a three-dimensional network constituted by the lipid bilayer. Cubosomes functionalized by complex coacervates of biopolymers will be studied regarding their structure for drug and bioactive encapsulation and the interaction with components of the biological application environment will be evaluated in real time. The proposal aims to consolidate and internationalize the research partnership between researchers. (AU)
