Abstract

This project aims to contribute to the knowledge of Diptera biodiversity, whether under taxonomic aspects (taxonomic revisions, description of new genera and species, redescription of species, elaboration of identification keys and maps of geographic distribution), systematics (based on cladistics analyzes, to test the monophyly of taxa and propose hypotheses of phylogenetic relationships) and curatorial (collection, sorting, assembly, identification, digitization, deposit in the collection of the Museum of Zoology of the University of São Paulo - MZUSP). The proposal foresees the collection of material in-situ, using different capture strategies, but also ex-situ, through visits that will be made in different Brazilian institutions for sorting and preparation of material collected during the development of projects focused on other groups of insects or different families of Diptera. The results predict an increase in knowledge about the diversity and evolution of the families Asilidae, Bombyliidae and Mythicomyidae (Diptera, Asiloidea) in the Neotropical region and a substantial increase in the taxonomic and geographic representativeness of the Asiloidea collection at MZUSP. There will also be dissemination of the main advances of the project through the official profiles of MZUSP on social networks and through lectures given to the general public at events of the educational programming of MZUSP.
