Development of a platform to test the efficacy and toxicity of new anticancer compounds for Leukemia in zebrafish model

Abstract

The number of people with cancer has dramatically increased over the past few years. Since cancer is considered a disease with a high mortality rate, the demand for scientific advances is rising, and in the field of oncology and cancer therapy, research involving animal models is important. To develop new platforms to assist in the screening of substances with antineoplastic activity is necessary, and is one of the most effective ways to discover new drugs that are likely to revolutionize the treatment of cancer. This project intends to establish a platform for the design of efficacy and toxicity tests, mainly to identify new substances with antineoplastic potential using a model of leukemia in zebrafish (Danio rerio) based on xenotransplantation and the development of transgenic animals, examining the imaging of the establishment and progression of leukemia. For this reason, we aim to contribute to a better understanding of molecular mechanisms and to the development of potential new therapeutic approaches to treat human cancers. As well as providing new research opportunities, this study aims to create collaborations and train new researchers in oncology centers of excellence around the world that study zebrafish within a global framework of excellence.
