Abstract

The raising of mountain belts is a consequence of tectonic activity and the collision of plates, and the highest mountains are formed when two continental plates collide. The Continental geotherm is doubled and the accumulated heat generates metamorphism and partial melting, which transform and differentiates the continental crust, an irreversible process that is registered in the formed rocks during. Ancient orogens register these collisional events that occurred in the past history of Earth through their rocks, via their mineral assemblages, which record P-T-t paths that bring information on rates of heating, cooling, erosion, and time of these collisional events. How was the metamorphism and partial melting at the middle and lower portion of the continental crust. In the past 20 years our group has been investigation rocks of the Brasília and Ribeira Orogen, as well as from São Francisco Craton, in Goiás, Minas Gerais, and São Paulo. The idea of this project is the continuation of this research, expanding to areas in Bahia, but keep going with the investigation in areas we have been investigation and contributing with the knowledge of regional geology and tectonics, using for this the Metamorphic Petrology and the newest tools available for these investigations.
