Abstract

The research project aims to examine certain geometric knowledge in the period of the Modern Mathematics Movement (MMM), in two Brazilian states: São Paulo and Bahia. To this end, the main sources of investigation are the regulations and the main textbooks produced in both states, both primary and secondary school, during the 1950s to 1980s. the contribution of significant geometric knowledge - topological relationships, geometric drawing and geometric transformations - in proposals for teaching geometry in primary and secondary school, in order to understand the different processes of systematization of modernizing teaching geometries. It is expected, as a result, to provide relevant reflections for the current debate on this knowledge and teacher training. The theoretical-methodological tools are based on cultural history, on the studies of Roger Chartier, Dominique Julia, Rita Hofstetter and Wagner Valente. (AU)
