Abstract

The premise of this research is the fact that production chains in the Amazon lack modern and inclusive practices. Practices to strengthen the development of more sustainable local value chains, to increase the income and wellbeing of the communities that inhabit the forests, to conserve biodiversity and to expand carbon stocks. This is a descriptive-exploratory study based on the principles of action research. The method will be based on multiple case studies, considering four units of analysis - the production chains of pirarucu, cocoa, apiculture and açai. The project aims to prioritize recommendations for public policies for the generation of employment and income, wellbeing of the communities, food security and citizenship and entrepreneurship education. Proposals to mitigate the level of economic activity associated with illicit practices. The systematization of cases will allow the identification of current and innovative business practices, to propose replicable models in other production chains. These models will include metrics for monitoring the governance and functioning of production chains. To obtain results and generate impact, stakeholders from the private and public sectors will be engaged from the beginning of the studies by way of a steering council in the framing, execution, dissemination, and monitoring of empirical results. The knowledge created, which includes technological prospecting, will be disseminated via printed contents (book and articles) and digital (website, videos and podcast) as well as returns for the local communities engaged in and benefitting from this research.
