A galaxia e a formacao de estrelas.

Abstract

The objective of this project is the study of our Galaxy, both from the view point of its individual constituents (stars, including its formation process, interstellar medium, cosmic rays, etc.) and through its integral behavior (stellar kinematics and dynamics, structure, spiral arms, etc.). To attain this goal, observations at different wave lengths will be performed, from radio to gamma rays, and theoretical studies will be conducted using numerical models. From the observational side, the receivers and detectors of the Itapetinga Radio Observatory and of the Abrahão de Morais Optical Observatory will be improved, and the MASCO project, developed by members of our team at INPE to study gamma rays from our Galaxy from stratospheric balloons, will be completed. To reach the theoretical objectives, the different groups will acquire modern computational facilities. This project represents part of the Center for Astrophysics project, submitted to FAPESP in the CEPID program (Process No. 98/14264-8). (AU)
