Abstract

Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death in women worldwide, and the luminal subtype is the most common, accounting for approximately 70-80% of cases. This subtype is characterized by the expression of estrogen receptors (ER) by the tumor in the immunohistochemical analysis of percutaneous biopsy specimens. Recently, PET/CT with 18F-Fluoroestradiol (18F-FES) has emerged as a non-invasive imaging examination capable of evaluating the expression of ER, enabling the identification of tumor lesions throughout the body. PET/CT images obtained in the prone position allow for better correlation with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the breasts, which can aid in locoregional staging and therapeutic planning. The objective of this study is to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of PET/CT with 18F-FES performed in the prone position for staging women diagnosed with invasive breast carcinoma of the luminal subtype. This is a prospective, single-center study that will include female patients diagnosed with invasive luminal subtype breast carcinoma, from January to December 2024. After agreeing to participate in the study and signing the Informed Consent Form, patients will undergo PET/CT examination with 18F-FES, performed with a specific protocol for this study. The results of PET/CT will be compared with findings from other imaging examinations, as well as histological and immunohistochemical data of the tumor. (AU)
