Scientific EMU: Acquisition of a Spectral Cell Sorter for multidimensional characterization of hematopoietic cell interactions with the medullary microenvironment in malignant and infectious diseases


The Project "Scientific EMU: Acquisition of a spectral cell sorter for multidimensional characterization of the interactions of hematopoietic cells with the medullary microenvironment in malignant and infectious diseases" aims to allow analyzes of cellular interaction and immuno-phenotypic characterization, either in blood tissue or in tissues of greater structural complexity. The equipment in question allows the researcher a significant gain of information compared to what would be possible to be performed in conventional flow cytometers, allowing the analysis of several phenotypic parameters within the same analysis. In addition, the BD FACSDiscover S8 is a spectral cell sorter, which can be equipped with up to 5 lasers and 78 detectors used in spectral analysis for the identification and characterization of cell populations of interest, as well as an innovative feature for creating images of cells intercepted by lasers through a patented and exclusive technology, called BD CellView, which uses a dedicated system of detectors to produce this respective information. As a spectral cytometer coupled to a cell sorter, it has great potential for application in the research projects associated with the present proposal, which focus on the identification of cellular subpopulations of high immuno-phenotypic or metabolic complexity, allowing a gain in important information in the understanding of cellular mechanisms that can be addressed within a therapeutic context, aiming to speed up the application of stem cells and genetically modified immune cells in the fight against cancer, in tissue regeneration, in the testing of new compounds with potential anti-tumor and/or regenerative, and also in infectious diseases.
