Abstract

The beef industry in the state of Florida, United States, is similar to that of Brazil, in aspects such as using Bos indicus-influenced cattle, the hot and humid weather and the strong emphasis in reproductive efficiency. Such similarities are relevant to justify the visit of Dr. Mario Binelli, from the University of Florida, to serve as a visiting scholar at the University of Sao Paulo, Pirassununga Campus, from July 2024 to January, 2025. Dr. Binelli's research program targets the endocrine, cellular and molecular control of reproductive process in the bovine female, specially during the preimplantational period of gestation. Dr. Binelli will apply his vast experience in the area as a research collaborator at USP on the three experiments that constitute the project "Innate immune response to concept signaling in early pregnancy in cattle" (FAPESP 2022/14936-7), mainly regarding data analysis and bioinformatics. Moreover, Dr. Binelli will serve in Sao Paulo research institutions beyond Pirassununga, collaborating in projects funded by FAPESP, assisting in research proposal preparation, participating in lab meetings and journal clubs, giving lectures and talks in scientific meetings in his area of expertise, across the state of Sao Paulo. Finally, Dr. Binelli's visit will generate opportunities for collaboration between the University of Florida and other institution in the state system, to facilitate student and faculty exchange and to promote collaborative research.
